Directions & About The Island
Hornby Island is a “second island”. Travel is from Vancouver Island (Buckley Bay terminal) by ferry to Denman Island and then drive (or get a ride) across Denman Island to the terminal at Gravelly Bay and then by ferry to Hornby Island.
Bus: Both Island Link and Tofino Bus offer services from Victoria, Nanaimo and Departure Bay to the Buckley Bay terminal. You will need to ask for a ride across Denman Island, the vehicles in lane 1 are all Hornby bound. We can meet you at the Hornby Island ferry terminal.
Car: From the Buckley Bay terminal on Vancouver Island, you can buy a round trip fare to Hornby Island which includes crossing Denman Island and the two return ferry fares. The cost for a driver and vehicle is about $60. There is an “experience” card you can purchase from BC Ferries which offers a 40% reduced fare and can be used on other ferry routes as well, you have to ask for it as they don’t advertise it. The ferries can be very busy in the summer months and waits of up to several hours for vehicles are common. From Buckley Bay to Denman Island, the crossing is about 15 minutes, the drive across Denman Island is also 15 minutes and the crossing to Hornby is also 15 minutes.
Dana & Support
The participation in the courses for practice and study is free of charge. There are no fees for the teachings , the facilities and the meals. The teaching shall be freely available to anyone, irrespective of their financial background. All arising costs are covered solely by voluntary donations made by people who have experienced the benefits of this meditation practice and who wish to maintain and support it in the future. In this way the courses are a gift from meditators, previous participants and general supporters.
Dana stands for the joy of giving, for generosity and for bounty.
In the Buddhist tradition, through giving Dana, the giver is developing generosity and thereby also serving his or her spiritual development and practice. For this, the act of giving Dana needs to be completely free from expectations or conditions.
Developing the ability to give Dana means developing solidarity at the same time, as the giving of Dana opens up the possibility for countless other people to walk the path of the Buddha’s teachings.
Participation in the courses is based on Dana. We specifically do not give any recommendation for the amount of Dana as the value of the teaching cannot be measured in terms of money.
Giving and generosity are active aspects of our spiritual practice. They help to maintain the teaching and to make it available to everyone.
Thank you for your support.
